Chapter 1: Introducing Jewel of Arabia

Jewel of Arabia transports you more than two thousand years back in time to one of the most fascinating eras of human civilization. The world you will discover is rich with ancient cultures and traditions, but it is also a world on the verge of great change.

The mighty Persian Empire which extended from the Himalayas all the way to the Mediterranean Sea is crumbling. Alexander the Great, the man who finally conquered this powerful dynasty, did not live long enough to establish a new kingdom in its place. And now, 100 years after Alexander sought to unite the glorious civilizations of East and West, you find a world without a leader.

In Jewel of Arabia you will explore this vast and mysterious landscape of the Near East. You will find a world populated by ancient races, but also a world in flux, as everyone vies for position in this era of change.

Getting started

In Jewel of Arabia, you assume the role of a young Prince or Princess. The game begins as you drift off to sleep and suddenly find yourself as a character in your own vivid dream. The world you encounter is surprisingly like the one you remember before you were imprisoned in a Tower by your jealous Uncle.

As you explore the world with your Djinn and allies, you will meet many people and travel to new and exciting places. But you will never quite forget that you are dreaming, and that at some point you must awaken if you are to venture beyond the borders of your dream. But for now, savor your freedom, and adventure with your allies. The experience you gain will serve you well.

To begin your adventure, you can either use the pre-made party that comes with Jewel of Arabia, or you can elect to start a new game of your own. If you choose the pre-made party, you will not miss any of the story, you will just skip the character creation portion of the game.

If you prefer to create your own party of adventurers before you begin, you can do so, but you should probably read Chapter 2 of this manual beforehand. It explains the unique character classes in Jewel of Arabia and all of the important statistics that make up a character. It also includes some hints on building a better party.

The controls in the game are very simple. Almost all tasks can be accomplished by pressing one of the on-screen buttons. And to move your party around the map, use the mouse or numeric keypad.

How to register

The shareware portion of Jewel of Arabia: Dreamers is a complete and self-contained adventure. It is a lot of fun and will give you a very thorough idea of what is to come when you register.

Once you complete the shareware game and wake up from your dream, you will have to register Jewel of Arabia in order to continue your adventures. The complete game is about eight times larger than the shareware game, so there is much more to come.

The simplest (and fastest) way to register Jewel of Arabia is via the World Wide Web. Quarter Note Software's web page links to a secure web site that can accept credit card payments. Our web address is: www.qnote.com.

If you prefer not to pay via the Web, please run the register program that came with Jewel of Arabia. You can also download a copy of the register program from our web page if you don't have one. Run the register program and choose the payment method you prefer and enter your personal information.

If you pay by credit card, then you can:

If you pay by check or money order, please print out the registration form and include that in the envelope with your payment. The cash payment option is provided for the convenience of foreigners, who would otherwise have to pay unreasonable exchange fees in order to register. Residents of the USA should not send cash through the US mail.

As soon as Kagi receives and processes your payment, you will receive a code that will unlock the rest of the game.

Credits

A game of the size and scope of Jewel of Arabia is truly a labor of love, because it consumes so much of the people who work on it. When we got started on this project, we all thought that we'd be able to finish the game in about 9 months. We were two experienced programmers and one dedicated and accomplished artist. Well, here we are 2 years and 3 months later, and we're just putting the last touches on the game and writing the manual.

It has been a long journey. The path was bumpier and curvier and steeper than any of us could have imagined, but it was a wonderful trip over all. More than anything else, we hope that you will enjoy our game and play it many times.

If you enjoy playing Dreamers, please write to us and let us know. Nothing, and I mean nothing, brightens the day more than a kind word from those of you who play our games.
